What we’re doing

The treatment emerging as renowned and revolutionary in addiction, PTSD, depression and wellness.

Today, ibogaine is one of the most sought-after treatments in the world, and one of the hardest to reach. It is elusive. It is expensive. For most people it stays a rumor: something a friend mentioned, a podcast hinted at, a door that never opened.

The documentary revolves around a comprehensive, fully transparent, medically supervised ibogaine treatment in Rosarito, Mexico. We are documenting the real-life journey of people living with PTSD, depression, anxiety and chemical dependency as they experience ibogaine treatment with physician oversight, continuous cardiac monitoring, and structured preparation and aftercare. The documentary uncovers a level of detail never seen before: every screening, every heartbeat on the monitor, every hour of the journey, from the first preparation call to the last aftercare session.

From dozens of applicants, the first twelve will be selected by us and by you, the community. Those twelve get the chance so many are searching for. The cameras stay on for all of it: the hope, the fear, the medicine, the long night of treatment, and the road home. Nothing hidden.

Why this story

Because it saves lives.

Some people are in so much pain that nothing else has reached them. Ibogaine reaches them, and it gives them the space to heal. That's why we're telling this story. Twelve people, two weeks, nothing hidden.

The shape of the story

Before. The stay. The reintegration home.

  1. A long wooden table on a porch at dusk with six mismatched chairs and warm string lights

    Part 1

How Bad Does It Have to Get?

How bad does it have to get? Bad enough to cross a border for a treatment said to be among the most powerful there is. First, why they're here. And what they want.

  2. An empty coastal road at blue hour with one car's red taillights in the distance and the sea beyond

    Part 2

    The Longest Day

The day it all comes up. Hours long, and said to be unlike anything they've faced. Some call it a life review. No distractions, nowhere to hide.

  3. A quiet villa terrace above the Pacific at night with a sheer curtain moving in the breeze and candles on a low table

    Part 3

    The Review

Days of review. Back over what came up, and what it means for the life waiting at home.

  4. An open front door with golden morning light on a wooden floor, worn slippers and a steaming mug

    Part 4

    The Return

Then home, and the work is theirs: new habits, and letting go of what no longer serves them. The program offers 90 days of follow-up and integration support.

The medicine

What is ibogaine?

A root from West Africa, a ceremony older than memory, and a treatment that asks everything of the body that takes it.

Ibogaine comes from the root bark of iboga, a shrub that grows in the forests of Central West Africa. For generations it has been at the heart of Bwiti, a spiritual tradition in which the root is taken in ceremony. It is not a recreational drug, and it has never been a casual one.

In the United States, ibogaine is not approved by the FDA. For the people in this story, that's the reason for the border. Like many before them, they're traveling to Mexico, where it is not restricted, to be treated under medical care.

It asks a great deal of the heart. Why the medical work comes first

The risk is real. Ibogaine has been associated with dangerous, and in some cases fatal, disturbances of the heart's rhythm.1 That's why it is never taken alone and never taken lightly. Before anyone is treated, there is screening: an ECG, blood work, and a careful review of every medication they take, because some can't be safely combined with it.1 Through the long hours that follow, they are monitored.

What happens inside those hours belongs to each of the twelve, and the outcomes are amazing. We will show you all of it.
